Start Archery Weekend 10th May 2024

Now in its 13th year, Start Archery Week (10-18 May) sees archery clubs and providers across the
country open their doors to potential archers, giving people of all ages and abilities the chance to try
archery for the first time.
One of the most accessible sports around, it’s fun and inclusive and perfect for anyone wanting to
try something new, either on their own or with family and friends. Whether you’ve tried archery
before or have never thought about picking up a bow and arrow, this is a perfect chance to give it a
go.

Archery Taster Session 3rd August

A 1-hour taster session for anyone over the age of 6 who is interested in having a go at archery!

Each session will be lead by a member of our team of coaches and experienced archers, who will help you to shoot safely and confidently. Sessions will start with an introduction to shooting on the archery range and at the end you will have a chance to take part in a mini-competition or fun activity. We are able to take mixed-age groups of up to 4 people per session and spectators are also welcome.

Start Archery - Big Weekend 2022

Our Start Archery Open day was a great success with over a hundred people of all ages coming to try archery.

BBQ, Fruit Shoot and 3D targets all helped to make this a most enjoyable day.

3D Field Shoot 2021

Bratinree Bowmen normally run two 3D Field Shoots a year. Because current logistical difficulties we opted for a field shoot at our range, with 22 targets at unmarked ranges.

Imogen Newby has been selected to represent Archery GB at The Youth World Championships this

Braintree Bowmen archery ace Imogen Newby has been selected to represent Archery GB at The Youth World Championships this coming August in Wroclaw, Poland.

Following a rigorous selection process, the UK number 2 Female Cadet archer, shot her way to the top spot, hitting a new PB of 658 out of a maximum 720 and taking the final Head 2 Head match in 4 sets, 6-2 beating the UK number 1 to bag the top spot in the Great Britain youth squad and compete against the best archers in the world.

It has been quite some time since we were last together, so firstly and a little overdue - Happy New Year to all Braintree Bowmen members and their families.

As part of the Government’s roadmap out of Covid restrictions some outdoor sports including archery will be able to restart this month, the Braintree Bowmen archery range will return to open from Tuesday 30th March and sessions will shortly become available to book on Spond as before.

Walking in a Worcester Wonderland

Racketts Archery Club opened their doors for their annual Christmas Worcester shoot this weekend. As always this is by far the most relaxed and friendly shoot on the archery calendar with Christmas carols playing the background and many archers taking advantage of the invitation to dress up in Christmas outfits.

Braintree Bowmen were very well represented throughout the day with club archers competing in all 3 of the sessions. With 8 BB archers present at different times the club flag was flown high and proud.

CADAC Bill Tucker Memorial Shoot

Colchester and District Archery Club held their annual Bill Tucker Memorial Tournament on 6th May 2019. The event invited archers from all over the southern counties to compete in York, Hereford and Western rounds. It was announced that this would be the last tournament hosted by CADAC at this venue as they await a permanent move to brand new facilities in 2020.

Representing Braintree Bowmen on the day were Ian Bugbee in the York, James and Jo Moir in the Hereford, Sam Moir in the Western and Ben Moir in the Short Western.

Havering Heaven for the Moir boys

The annual Havering Youth Games signifies the start of the competitive summer seasonand at their new home ground Abbey Bowmen hosted the under 18s tournament at Noak Hill Sports Centre. The archery Gods were smiling down on the day with near perfect conditions - warm sunshine and just the hint of a breeze to keep competitors comfortable.

As usual the turn out was very encouraging with close to 40 young archers taking place. Ages ranged from 8 to 17 and competition was fierce at all distances. Brothers Sam and Ben Moir were representing Braintree Bowmen in the Short National and Junior National respectively.

Braintree Bowmen are looking forward to welcoming archers for 2 competitions over the next couple of months.

In August we have the Owen Hull Memorial shoot. Held on the 4th August this competition is open to all and is held in memory of one of Braintree Bowmen’s former Chairmen, Owen Hull. This is always a popular event for club members, visiting archers and families for both the shooting and the food as the current Chairman gets the BBQ out and lunch is included in the entry price.
